Loss adjusting

No claim is too small. None is too complex.

Whatever the size or difficulty, our goal is the same: the correct outcome, reached the right way.

We investigate the circumstances and cause of every loss in depth, manage the insured's expectations honestly, and report to our principals clearly and regularly — we understand that effective communication is essential through the life of a claim — bringing in expert consultants and legal advisors wherever a claim demands it.

Every determination is measured against the policy's terms and conditions, and every recommendation is independent and impartial — held to the ethical standards the industry expects and our clients deserve.

Our process

From first notification to final settlement

Every Chedza claim follows a clear, transparent path — so you always know what happens next, and when.

  1. Step 1

    Claim notified

Centralised through a single point of contact: bpo@chedza.co.za.

  2. Step 2

    Claim registered

Logged on our internal or external claims management system, the insurer notified within 24 hours, and an auto-generated file reference issued for full traceability.

  3. Step 3

    Allocated to a loss adjuster

The claim is matched to the right loss adjuster for the job.

  4. Step 4

    Adjuster engages

Full details are established and the insured is contacted within 48 hours.

  5. Step 5

    Report to insurer

A preliminary report is submitted within 5 days, covering circumstances, policy response and reserve — leading to a clear outcome: settlement or repudiation.

Throughout, we add value with pre-risk surveys, investigations and more — and every claim ends in a clear outcome: settlement or repudiation.

Expertise across the full spectrum of risk

Whatever the loss, we have specialists who understand it.

01

Property

From homes to commercial and corporate portfolios, our Property division handles losses of every size — fire, storms, hail, floods and more.

We get to the truth of what happened. That can mean forensic investigation, careful measurement of the loss, and a clear view of how the policy responds. With local and centralised services, dedicated rapid-response teams and a network of certified managed consultants, we expedite every claim — conducting cause-and-origin investigations and cost analysis across Africa and worldwide.

For the most complex property losses, our experienced property claims managers draw on specialist engineers, agricultural experts, surveyors, and repair and reinstatement services — and can call on the wider expertise of Crawford & Company South Africa whenever it’s needed.

02

Liability

Our Legal & Liability division is a complete, cost-effective service powered entirely by in-house expertise. With well-qualified legal minds and almost 100 years of collective experience, the division also provides legal opinion to every other division across the company.

Any business or individual can cause damage or injury — and when they do, the resulting claim needs a clear, fair assessment. We investigate each one to determine whether it is fair and reasonable, then advise insurers on two essential questions: is the client legally liable, and does the policy cover them?

From the smallest dispute to the largest exposure, we handle the full range of liability claims and the many forms of cover they involve.

03

Marine

Goods in transit face risk at every leg of the journey — by sea, road, rail or air. Our Marine division adjusts cargo, transit and related claims with the technical knowledge these losses demand, from damaged consignments to complex multi-modal shipments.

We investigate the cause and extent of each loss, assess the policy response, and report clearly to insurers — helping resolve claims quickly while protecting against exposure that isn’t covered.

04

Engineering

Our Engineering division has resolved major claims across South Africa, the wider African continent and internationally — serving captives, insurers and reinsurers on losses of real scale and complexity.

Representing every engineering discipline, we offer a genuine one-stop shop for engineering-related claims. Our hands-on approach settles complex claims cost-effectively, with the focus and attention to detail these losses demand — because it’s never just the settlement value at stake, but the ongoing business needs of every party. That’s why timing matters so much.

Once cause is established and liability accepted, the priority shifts to minimising the loss: replacing machinery and limiting the disruption to business and profit. A halt in production can cost far more than the original physical damage — so getting operations moving again is central to everything we do.

05

Mining

Mining losses are among the most demanding claims in the industry — and they’re where Chedza excels. We’ve managed major mining losses worldwide, running into millions of dollars, alongside a full range of claims services for insurers and corporate risk managers across the oil, gas, petrochemical, energy and natural-resources sectors.

Backed by a global, multi-disciplinary team, we have the experience and technical depth to manage any type of mining claim — wherever in the world it occurs.

06

Cyber

Cyber risk is now business risk. When an attack, breach or system failure strikes, the losses are immediate and far-reaching — from business interruption and data loss to liability and reputational harm.

Our Cyber division helps insurers respond with clarity. We assess the circumstances and extent of each incident, work alongside technical and forensic specialists to establish cause, and evaluate how the policy responds — so claims are resolved accurately and fairly in a fast-moving field.

07

Renewable Energy

The energy sector is changing at unprecedented speed. As renewable sources reshape how the world is powered, the risks facing the industry are growing more complex — from established wind and solar to emerging technologies.

Through GTS, Chedza’s specialty arm, we bring proven global expertise to energy clients: expert-led claims management, risk assessment, and recovery solutions built for a fast-evolving sector.

08

Business Interruption

When operations stop, the costs don’t. A business interruption loss can quickly outgrow the physical damage that caused it — lost revenue, lost profit, and the ripple effect of a halted supply chain.

Our specialists quantify these losses with precision: examining financial records, modelling the true impact of the disruption, and assessing how the policy responds. The goal is always the same — a fair, well-evidenced settlement that helps the business recover and get back to full strength as quickly as possible.

09

Forensics

Some claims hinge on a single question: what really happened? Our Forensics division finds the answer. Through rigorous cause-and-origin investigation, evidence analysis and technical expertise, we establish the facts behind a loss — clearly and defensibly.

Whether investigating fire, failure, fraud or complex damage, we give insurers the objective findings they need to determine policy response with confidence — and to stand behind that decision if it’s ever challenged.

10

Catastrophe

When disaster strikes on a large scale, insurers need a partner who can respond fast and at volume. From floods and storms to large-scale events covered under schemes such as Sasria, our catastrophe response mobilises quickly — deploying dedicated teams to assess widespread losses efficiently and consistently.

We bring order to the chaos that follows a major event: rapid site inspections, clear measurement of losses, and structured reporting that keeps insurers informed even when claim volumes surge.
